Vineyard News
Bishop’s Orchards in Guilford, CT has been farming since 1871, and the sixth generation is shaking things up. Their hard cider has a new identity, Daughters & Sons, named for the women led team now steering the ship, and they’ve transformed a barn at the main orchard into the Cider Hut & Garden, an indoor outdoor spot for ciders and wines right among the apple trees. Fall is exactly the season to see it.

Winery Spotlight: Mulberry Vineyards
Meet Mulberry Vineyards, a family run 40 acre vineyard on the historic Andrew Brown homestead in Chepachet, RI. Owners David and Melissa pour small batch wines alongside ciders and seasonal beers, tastings come with cheese and crackers, and dogs are welcome. It’s the kind of place where the winemaker is usually the one behind the counter, and it ranks among the coziest tasting rooms in Rhode Island.
Weekend Trip Idea: Ipswich, Massachusetts
Point the car at Ipswich, MA for a classic North Shore fall day. Start at Russell Orchards, a 120 acre family farm where the 1800s barn holds a farm store, a scratch bakery famous for cider donuts, and a winery pouring 22 fruit wines (tastings Friday to Sunday, 11 to 5). Hayrides and apple picking run through October. Then continue down Argilla Road to Crane Beach and the Crane Estate for foliage with an ocean view. One note: leave the pup home for this one, Russell’s is a no dogs farm.
Sweet Wine Corner
Bishop’s Orchards makes its wines from its own fruit, and the sparkling raspberry is the one visitors can’t stop talking about. Tasters say it’s like drinking raspberry jam, in the best way. Tastings run daily at the Farm Market wine bar.
