Vineyard News

A reader tip from our Quiet Corner friends led us to Quiet Corner Winery in Hampton, CT. They source grapes from California, Italy, Chile, and South Africa and craft small batches right here in Connecticut, all poured in a relaxed, no-pretense tasting room. Weekends run 12 to 5 through December, so catch it before the winter break.

Upcoming Events

Gooseneck Vineyards in North Kingstown, RI brings in local musicians on weekends, and the tasting room is open daily from 12 to 9. That makes it an easy Black Friday escape when you have had enough of the stores. Keep an eye on the lineup for Bobby Ferns, a local musician (and your editor's cousin) who plays there from time to time.

Winery Spotlight: Gooseneck Vineyards

Gooseneck moved out of Wickford Village in fall 2024 and into a renovated historic barn on Tower Hill Road, keeping the original horse stalls and barn doors. Pour a glass of Wickford White or Rhody Red, find a spot overlooking the vineyard, and watch their calendar for food truck nights and charcuterie board classes.

Weekend Trip Idea: Richmond, Massachusetts

Head to the foothills of the Berkshires for Hilltop Orchards, home of Furnace Brook Winery. The 100-year-old family orchard has views of three states, hiking trails, and cider donuts made fresh daily. Wine and cider tastings run every day from 9 to 6, and weekend afternoons bring live acoustic music. Dogs are welcome too (just check in first).

Sweet Wine Corner

Bringing dessert to Thanksgiving? Holmberg Orchards in Gales Ferry, CT pours a Bubbly Blanc with notes of strawberry and grapefruit and a refreshing sweetness that was made for pie. Five generations of the Holmberg family have farmed this stretch of the Thames River Valley.
